NewspaperDirect and PressDisplay a hit at MMF 2008

November 17, 2008

Well, last week’s Monaco Media Forum created quite a buzz and NewspaperDirect was right in the thick of it!

From printing current edition newspapers from around the world for the attendees every day, to freeing up PressDisplay.com at all venue locations for those who like to read their newspapers online, to showcasing PressDisplay and PressReader on the hottest new e-reading devices on the market (iRex Digital Reader and Polymer Vision’s Readius), NewspaperDirect was kept very busy.  But we love it that way!

Did you see how the MMF organizers used YouTube and Socialmedian to generate interest and share what new and exciting things are happening in digital media?   If not…you should.

To get you started, let me share with you one of our presentations at the event.  There is so much to see and hear at MMF, speakers are encouraged to keep presentations down to 5-6 minutes.  It’s tough to fit everything in, but Igor Smirnoff, our director of strategic development, did a fine job giving poeple a taste of what PressDisplay and NewspaperDirect have to offer.

If you want to learn more about anything you saw in this short presentation, just contact us at digital@newspaperdirect.com.

PressDisplay on iRex and Readius demonstrated at Monaco Media Forum

November 14, 2008

iRex Readius iPhoneOur own Igor Smirnoff was interviewed at the Monaco Media Forum this week about Digital Newspapers, Online Publishing and ePaper. He had a couple of the newest devices with him, such as the iRex Digital Reader (which we announced this week) and Polymer Vision’s foldable ePaper device, the Readius, and was able to demonstrate PressDisplay on them.

Check out this video of his interview and demonstration…

Thanks Igor!

News flash…NewspaperDirect Now on iRex Digital Reader!

November 13, 2008

PressReader on iRexAs promised earlier this week, NewspaperDirect is pleased to announce that it is introducing PressDisplay on the iRex digital reader.

At the Monaco Media Forum this week, NewspaperDirect is introducing the upcoming rollout of its PressDisplay.com PressReader on the iRex digital reader. With official release in December 2008, the iRex DR1000 will join a growing list of devices on which PressDisplay.com is available, offering 800+ newspapers and magazines from 80+ countries. These include Apple iPhone, Apple iPod Touch, BlackBerry and numerous smartphones.

NewpaperDirect’s wide array of digital distribution vehicles for newspapers are great for consumers, and great for publishers, too. NewspaperDirect enables publishers to migrate to new digital channels, reaching their readers where they want to read their newspapers, and adding new features that make a newspaper even more useful.  And…we do this at no cost to publishers! Yes, you heard that right – no cost! (You do, however, lose the ability to wrap fish with this device.) Check out this demo…

The iRex DR1000 is a sleek and lightweight portable digital reader featuring the world’s largest electronic paper display. The 10-inch screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper, unlike the strain and glare of a computer screen.  PressDisplay.com’s PressReader software will run on the iRex Digital Reader 1000 series, allowing readers to download their favorite daily newspapers in a matter of seconds and read them at their leisure.

“The DR1000 series equipped with NewspaperDirect’s PressReader software will offer readers an unparalleled digital newspaper reading experience with the feel of reading a real paper,” said Hans Brons, CEO of iRex. “We are pleased to be able to enhance our long-standing relationship with the newspaper industry by offering a unique reading platform to make publishers’ content available to a potentially untapped new audience.”
NewspaperDirect’s Alex Kroogman and Igor Smirnoff will be demonstrating the product on Thursday and Friday this week at MMF where it is sure to grab the attention of the techno-savy audience and publishers who are always looking for new ways to reach readers.  I’d say this is a pretty cool way to do that!
Hmmm…I wonder what Oprah would think of it ;)

NewspaperDirect Gears Up for Announcement at Monaco Media Forum 2008

November 10, 2008
NewspaperDirect is a media sponsor at MMF 2008

NewspaperDirect is a media sponsor at MMF 2008

This week NewspaperDirect will be making an exciting announcement at the third Monaco Media Forum 2008, where CEO, Alex Kroogman and Director of Strategic Development, Igor Smirnoff are doing presentations and participating in panels.

The Monaco Media Forum is organized and hosted by His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco and is a top caliber event that brings together leaders of new and old media for high-level discussions about the future of online, broadcast and print communication. The invitation-only event focuses on emerging opportunities in technology, distribution and content, as well as the implications for marketing and finance. Now in its third year, MMF is the premier meeting place for architects of the new media landscape.

At this year’s MMF, NewspaperDirect will be engaged at several levels…

Alex Kroogman will be taking part in a session on new devices and content distribution alonside with Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, Mike Cooper, Director of Advanced Reading Technologies at Microsoft, Stephen Tomlin, CEO of Chumby Industries and (we’ve heard)…the publisher of the International Herald Tribune (still TBC).

PressDisplay.comIgor Smirnoff  will be presenting PressDisplay.com, the largest online newspaper kiosk in the world, on many exciting new devices and platforms, including leading and emerging e-reading devices.  These innovative channels and highly desirable audiences are brought to all of NewspaperDirect’s 800+ publishing partners at no additional cost to the publishers.  Not only will this bring new revenue to our publishing partners, it will help them migrate successfully from their traditional print business into the digital world.

Ad Value Map ExampleIgor will also be demonstrating our recently announced Advertising Value Map technology, which will help both publishers and advertisers renew their confidence in newspaper advertising in both digital and printed media.  Ad Value Map, in its most basic definition, shows advertisers where and when to place ads in newspapers to maximize exposure and ROI.

Newspapers around the worldAs an official media sponsor of the event, NewspaperDirect will be using its Print-on-Demand technology to deliver hundreds of same-day newspapers to the diverse group of international delegates. Featured newspapers will be chosen with the countries of origin of many delegates and will include leading American, Canadian, German, Italian, Japanes, Chinese and Russian newspapers that will be available at the same hour (or earlier) as they are in their home markets.

And for the icing on the digital cake…For the duration of the event the Monaco Media Forum attendees will be authorized to have unrestricted access to the world press in digital format.  All venue locations will be “Free PressDisplay Zones” to demonstrate how NewspaperDirect uses technology for many of its publishing partners in “going green” initiatives, cutting on print production and distribution cost.

MMF is a very prestigious event and NewspaperDirect is honored to be a part of it every year.   This year’s theme is Media Everywhere: Thriving on Disruption, and the exclusive list of participants and speakers include:  News Corp’s James Murdoch, Google EMEA chief Nikesh Arora, Vivendi’s Jean-Bernard Levy, NBCU’s Ben Silverman and Joost’s Nik Zennstrom, Robert Thomson of the Wall Street Journal, Mark Thompson of the BBC, Real Networks’ Rob Glaser and Chris De Wolfe from MySpace to name just a few.  And of course, along with Igor and Alex, EDventures’ Esther Dyson (a highly valued member of our board) will be on the panel “Shock of the New:  Building the Next Disruption” – should be quite the discussion.

Sorry I can’t spill the beans yet on our exciting announcement, but check back here on Wed to read all about it!
