News flash…NewspaperDirect Now on iRex Digital Reader!
As promised earlier this week, NewspaperDirect is pleased to announce that it is introducing PressDisplay on the iRex digital reader.
At the Monaco Media Forum this week, NewspaperDirect is introducing the upcoming rollout of its PressDisplay.com PressReader on the iRex digital reader. With official release in December 2008, the iRex DR1000 will join a growing list of devices on which PressDisplay.com is available, offering 800+ newspapers and magazines from 80+ countries. These include Apple iPhone, Apple iPod Touch, BlackBerry and numerous smartphones.
NewpaperDirect’s wide array of digital distribution vehicles for newspapers are great for consumers, and great for publishers, too. NewspaperDirect enables publishers to migrate to new digital channels, reaching their readers where they want to read their newspapers, and adding new features that make a newspaper even more useful. And…we do this at no cost to publishers! Yes, you heard that right – no cost! (You do, however, lose the ability to wrap fish with this device.) Check out this demo…
The iRex DR1000 is a sleek and lightweight portable digital reader featuring the world’s largest electronic paper display. The 10-inch screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper, unlike the strain and glare of a computer screen. PressDisplay.com’s PressReader software will run on the iRex Digital Reader 1000 series, allowing readers to download their favorite daily newspapers in a matter of seconds and read them at their leisure.
“The DR1000 series equipped with NewspaperDirect’s PressReader software will offer readers an unparalleled digital newspaper reading experience with the feel of reading a real paper,” said Hans Brons, CEO of iRex. “We are pleased to be able to enhance our long-standing relationship with the newspaper industry by offering a unique reading platform to make publishers’ content available to a potentially untapped new audience.”

The New York Times was featured in the video, is it coming to PressDisplay?
Hi Jonathan.
I sure would love to have NYT on PressDisplay. Let’s keep our fingers crossed
Gayle
You can already get a complete electronic version of the NYT from http://www.newsstand.com/. This is a replication of the paper version.
I read the NYT everyday on my computer. It’s great.
I also have a subscription to the NYT through newsstand, and have for many years. However, I find the interface clumsy and difficult to navigate. And for reading on a tablet, oriented vertically, it is next to useless. In reality, the NYT on newsstand was better in its previous incarnation, a few years ago. The best thing about a newsstand subscription to the NYT is that you are eligible for free access to the Times Reader, a downloadable program that makes the NYT extremely easy to read online…but not as a newspaper replica.
I would love to see the NYT on PressDisplay. The PressDisplay format is far superior to that of newsstand–especially for those who like to read on tablets or monitors that can be vertically oriented to mimic the shape of a newspaper page.
