Read All About It… In-flight! Passengers Experience First Ever Daily In-flight Digital Newspapers with DTI Solutions and NewspaperDirect

NewspaperDirect is very excited to announce our partnership with flydubai and DTI Solutions to bring daily updated local and international newspapers to travelers on all flights!

Starting January 2013, flydubai became the world’s first airline to offer daily updated local and international digital newspapers.

DTI Solutions, an in-flight entertainment solutions provider, has taken on the challenges and complexities of the in-flight environment, such as compatibility with in-flight entertainment hardware, and the logistics of frequently updating content. By integrating the PressReader application with DTI Solutions’ industry leading in-flight reading software, eReader, we are able to give  passengers the access to read newspapers and magazines using in-flight entertainment systems equipped with touch-screen technology.

“Flydubai has taken on-board digital media consumption to the next level with daily updates from our extensive catalog of newspaper and magazine titles,” said Alex Kroogman, CEO of NewspaperDirect. “We are delighted to have helped turn the concept of in-flight daily digital newspaper updates into a reality for the airline industry.”

Our unique project with flydubai will offer passengers access to more than 50 local and international newspaper titles from our vast catalog of thousands of publications. And prior to departure, air travelers are alsogiven access to over 2,300 newspapers and magazines on their personal devices via popular PressReader application (voted “Best App Ever” for 2011 in the iOS newspaper category and is nominated for 2012 in the same category).

NewspaperDirect Publishing Partnerships Surpass 3,000 Titles!

NewspaperDirect (ND) is very excited to announce the addition of AS, Spain’s top national daily sport newspaper to our growing collection of digital newspapers and magazines available through our PressReader app for iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows.

The announcement also marks an important milestone for ND as this latest addition marks our 3,000th publication!

AS joins ND’s vast digital network of top press titles from around the world including newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, The Australian, The Globe and Mail, The Washington Post, Le Monde, The Irish Times, The New Zealand Herald, La Nacíon, Mundo Deportivo, and National Geographic.

PressReader for Windows 8 released!

We’re very excited to announce that PressReader for the Windows 8 platform on Intel devices (Surface App coming soon!) is now available for download from the Microsoft Windows app store!

With over 2,300 newspapers and magazines from 100 countries, Windows 8 users can now read their favorite publications using PressReader’s advanced features, including:

  • SmartFlow advanced reading technology, which enhances the traditional replica newspaper presentation by displaying articles as a continuous, horizontal stream of stories that flow across Windows 8, transforming the reading experience. Visual cues indicate the relative importance of individual stories, and SmartFlow surfaces related content that might otherwise be missed
  • Instant switching between Replica/Page View and SmartFlow viewing
  • SmartZoom automatically positions the zoomed-in view to the beginning of an article
  • Press and hold (i.e. Long Press) activation of contextually driven actions:
    • Utilizes the Share charm to share stories by email, or on Facebook or Twitter
    • Share articles using Evernote
    • Listen to articles using on-demand audio
    • Share opinions by supporting or opposing a story
  • Adjustable font size for optimum readability
  • Utilizes the Search charm for cross-title search
  • Desktop thumbnails of the most recently downloaded publications for instant access to the latest issues
